Isn't the answer just "yes" ?
ReplyDeleteReally seems too easy to be true.
Hmmmm... really weird. I don't knwo why it is so easy. I put yes, I hope I am right.
ReplyDeleteI sent my answer at about 2:15, do you think I have a chance for the avatar ?
ReplyDeleteThe answer is so easy that I'm really doubtful.
Yes. If they say no I'm going to ask them to show me how you can't.
ReplyDeleteWhat if the answer is "no" because you would have to use your mouse, not a pencil, since it's on the computer screen?
ReplyDeleteOf course the answer is no, because if you don't lift your pencil how can you draw!
ReplyDeletethe answer is no because it isnt an euler path.
ReplyDelete^ false. You must think outside the box.
ReplyDeleteOMG you guys the answer is YES !!! Do not overthink it...
ReplyDeletethe answer is no how can u draw a straight line without being able to life the pencil
ReplyDeleteguys its connect all of the dots with one line (start at one dot and connect them all without lifting, no diagonals) and it may be harder than you think
ReplyDeleteCant you just go around in a spiral? It doesn't specify how many lines you can have or anything, so....
ReplyDeleteI'm probably over-thinking this, but I'm thinking it's no because technically they're line segments, and you have to pick up your pencil to begin drawing anyways. Also, the person may be using pen, or marker, or something... I think I jumped the shark there. :P
ReplyDeletehttp://www.archimedes-lab.org/How_to_Solve/9_dots.html
ReplyDeleteIt said connect all the dots. So youd have to pick it up. Not just strike throuh.
ReplyDeleteNo it says draw straight lines through the dots - not connect them - the answer is yes dummies !!!
ReplyDeleteTrial-and-error strategy
ReplyDelete9 dot joined by a curved lineIt is easy to connect all the 9 ladybugs with just a CURVED line (see fig. opposite). Try now to imagine this line as elastic as a rubber string, and wonder what would happen if one or more curves/bights would be stretched beyond the ‘invisible’ boundary, as shown in fig. a and b below.
That intuition turns out, in fact, to be the relevant ‘insight’. Thanks to your imagination, the curved line can be stretched as much as needed to obtain 4 straight lines! (fig. c). Obviously, there are other ways to approach the puzzle...
This is going to be very interesting in the end... 50-50 chance.
ReplyDeleteIt clearly says "without lifting your pencil." If you don't lift your pencil, you won't be doing much writing at all.
ReplyDeleteThey specifically said a PENCIL and it didn't mention anyone writng. so i think they purposely made it so the answer is NO because you cant draw without lifting your pencil off the table :)
ReplyDeleteYou could draw straight lines with a pen without lifting your pencil... duh.
ReplyDelete"...you cant draw without lifting your pencil off the table"
ReplyDeleteI mean I can draw fine without lifting my pencil. I could use a pen. Or a marker. It was a cute try though, but you have to actaully think when attempting to think outside the box.
In any case the answer is yes. It doesn't really matter though, anyone that didn't send it in in the first ten minutes aren't even going to get a bronze trophy.
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that this was an extremely poor question. Is TNT just lazy? "Can you draw straight lines through all nine dots without lifting your pencil" There is no line limit, you could easily just go through three, go up, go through the next three, go up, and go through the last three without ever lifting your pencil. It's stupid.
ReplyDeleteYou can obviously draw without a pencil, just use pen or marker or if you think its a computer drawing task, use a tablet pen with a ruler or a mouse!
ReplyDeleteIf you don't lift your pencil, then how do you hold it?
ReplyDeleteYou don't hold any damn pencil, use something else
ReplyDeleteI said,
ReplyDelete"No, my pencil won't write on the screen."
haha smart-aleck always wins!
This is the most stupidly-ambiguous conundrum we've had for a while. Grah. And I hate yes/no conundrums because guessing is so easy.
ReplyDeletei's yes
ReplyDeleteThis is a question that will piss off almost anyone depending on interpretation.
ReplyDeleteSome people consider that as soon as the pencil tip touches the paper is when the "cannot lift" begins. Some people consider it as soon as you touch the pencil. Some people consider it just as simple as not even using a pencil, because technically you can draw straight lines with a marker and thereby not lift the pencil, at no point does it state you have to USE the pencil.
It's a yes in some ways and a no in others, therefore it's all dependent on how TNT interprets it, and for all we know, it's Yes AND No to them so we'd all get it wrong.
I wish TNT gave us more information on how exactly to solve this puzzle, because there are many different ways to solve it, and I don't really understand which way did they mean. Maybe they meant something completely different from what I assumed, and that would make my answer incorrect. But I guess that is the way to make it harder for us.
ReplyDeleteUse a dry erase marker, it does write on the screen, and there is no need to even touch the pencil. You can make all the straight lines you want. Of course it is YES.
ReplyDeleteno because when you reach one of the corners it's not a straight line any more because it has a corner
ReplyDeletethis ridiculous -__-
ReplyDeleteThe problem is .. They did not say the amount of lines .. If only 1 line is impossible O_O
ReplyDeletebut they said can you draw through these lines WITHOUT lifting your pencil. The answer is no. If you dont lift your writing utensil you cannot draw the lines.
ReplyDeletethey dont say there is anything but a pencil so i dont know where you guys are getting markers from
ReplyDeleteI said no, because as someone else said, a line is a straight mark with no curves or turns. So when you reach the corners and turn, it is no longer a line.
ReplyDeleteit says "lines" with a "s" at the end. You guys are overthinking it
ReplyDeleteSo when you reach the corners and turn, it is no longer a line.
ReplyDelete-------
if it's not a line, what is it?
@babygirlclo You're missing the point. Who says that a pencil is the only writting utensil availiable to you. No one. Why can you not lift a pen and write WITHOUT ever lifting your pencil.
ReplyDeleteAnd to you idiots who don't understand that when you draw a corner you jsut have TWO straight lines instead of one. You are still drawing straight lines, (since it asks if you can draw straight lineS with an S.) Then you're fine.
The answer is yes.
Has the answer been judged yet?
ReplyDeleteBAM! Lol. Right after I posted (the post above) they sent out the letters. The answer was of course yes. (duh.) But I'm mad I got a silver trophy which I have gotten the last four weeks in a row ha ha! I want a gold. >:p Oh well. If you thought it ws no, then try thinking next time. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhy a pencil holder... what is the point? Why not give out good prizes neopets... Lol.
